You see all these topics on how to downgrade a PSP, but have you ever considered upgrading? If you like some of the new features Sony has released in firmware, this might be the place for you. This Topic is on how to upgrade your PSP firmware with a USB Cable.
Get the firmware upgrade data. You can get one on the official PSP website[1].When clicking Download Now, remember to Save it, not open it.The file name should be EBOOT.PBP Save somehwhere where you can access it easily e.g. Desktop,My Documents, C:\.
If the PSP folder and GAME folder are not there, you can just create them.Remember that the folder name MUST be in CAPITAL LETTERS and the the GAMES folder is INSIDE the PSP folder, don't mess this up or your PSP will ignore your folders "Safely Remove Hardware" -- this should be in your Icon Bar on the Right side of your start bar.Fully charge your PSP and plug it into the wall. Go to the Games Area;there should be an Icon that says Memory Stick Choose that by Pressing
"X" and you'll see PSP Update Version *.** (* meaning what version you've downloaded onto your PSP).Press PSP Update Version *.**, It'll clear the screen for a few seconds and come back on saying "PSP System Software Version *.**" It has a
"Start" option or says that you already have that version. Press the Start if you want to upgrade.
Go through the User Agreement and start the upgrade Process. When it starts, remember not to even touch that PSP. Avoid it like your PSP is cursed and fling it at the wall and smash it to a gAJiillion pieces. (or just leave it alone on the floor, desk , chair, etc.)Remember to fully charge and plug your PSP into the wall. If you don't,you might get the battery glitch and trash your PSP forever. Make sure when creating folders to name them in Capital Letters To rename, just right click folder,
Rename The Update Process may take a few minutes, maybe 2-5 minutes, try not to do anything to your PSP while updating, including disconnecting from the power outlet in the wall, turning it off, etc. Many people Downgrade their PSP to version 1.5 in order to upgrade to higher version such 3.51,etc.Because with a refresh PSP with a version 3.03 or above, you can run a lot more games and software applications without restriction on it.

Top-level comments on this article: (4 total)I did all of the above mentioned, up until "press PSP update version". When I do this, the screen goes blank for a while like you said. But when it comes back on, all that's left is the original PSP theme, and it's blank. No words, nothing to select etc. I can scroll left and right, but it is only more blank screens. What to do? I really like to upgrade my firmware.
